Stratos Biweekly Report Jan 22, 2025 — Feb 04, 2025
During this sprint, we completed intensive testing of the Metanode Migration on the Mesos Testnet and successfully launched the new Metanode Network on the mainnet. This upgrade has significantly enhanced the network’s performance, delivering faster data retrieval and improved data transfer capabilities. Remarkably, the Metanode Network now handles the same volume of traffic as before the migration, while utilizing only around 10% of the previous hardware resources. These advancements have further strengthened Stratos’ decentralized infrastructure, enhancing efficiency, scalability, and supporting continued network growth.
In recent days after the deployment of the Metanode update onto mainnet, we observed attempts by some users to exploit strategies that were effective prior to the Metanode upgrade in an effort to manipulate the system. This involved uploading and downloading large volumes of files in a way that skews rewards in favor of their storage provider (SP) node. Before the upgrade, such activities would have significantly stalled the network. However, the enhanced Stratos network managed the increased traffic seamlessly and the attempt to game the system again was unsuccessful.
These past few days served as a valuable stress test, demonstrating that Stratos is well-prepared for the next phase of high-traffic usage. With the upcoming release of Stratos Drive and the Stratos Interplanetary File System (SPFS) in the next few weeks, along with future applications, the network is positioned for significant expansion. Upon the release of SPFS, Stratos is expected to host the largest IPFS cluster.
