Stratos AMA Recap With Crypto Street Squad
On October 11th, we got an opportunity to conduct an AMA session with Crypto Street Squad community. During this session, our founder, Bin Zhu and head of Marketing Claire Zhang introduced Stratos data mesh to the crowd of crypto enthusiats and answered the community questions on our various topics related to Decentralized Cloud, Stratos goals, unique Proof of Traffic consensus, mission, mining opportunities, and more.

Hi everyone, I am Bin Zhu, the founder of Stratos
As the founder of Stratos, I have over 20+ years of experience in software development across multiple platforms and technologies. Previously, I was the cloud team founder of MindGeek, where I built the complete big data ecosystem and led the entire team to provide data services to more than 100 millions users per day cross all the country in the world.
I was also technical cofounder of Faimdata, an AI company providing consumer data intelligence solutions via computer vision for retailer customers.
With experiences working across the generations of technology innovations, I am leading the Stratos team to build the next generation of decentralized data mesh that enables the uses of blockchain technology across industries.
Stratos team is formed by a group AAA developers which come from Canadian National Railway, Amazon, Expedia, Huawei, Alibaba etc. Each of them has top enterprise level development experience.
Also, there are around 1/3 team members come from the same company Mindgeek like me, they worked with me for building big data platform. Each team member will take advantage of rich developing experience to contribute to the Stratos project.
For the Stratos project, Stratos is a solid infrastructure for the entire blockchain industry in a decentralized manner. Stratos offers Blockchain, Storage, database and Computation services, the user and developers can combine the 4 different services together to customize their own product.
The goal about Stratos is to be the foundation (Decentralized Cloud) of Blockchain industry and help the blockchain industry to get rid of centralized Cloud service.

Interesting name choice for your project, there are other older tokens with a similar name, would this have any impact against your project. Your interest for atmosphere / description of that and the meaning of the name is clear. I am just unsure why / it’s closely named to another project / legacy.
Would this ever have any impact / or cause confusion in an almost visible overwhelmed info tech market?

Stratos is part of Stratosphere, if we consider the earth is crypto industry, Stratos would like to offer the full package service to blockchain industry like Stratosphere surround the earth

How does Stratos differ from the other cloud services — say Filecoin / Sia etc?

Stratos is decentralized infrastructure service provider which contain storage, database and computation. Decentralized storage is just one service in Stratos, so we provide much more than them.

It accept all kind of data you want to save. Zip, Word, PPT, anything.

For SocialFi or GameFi, these type projects they need storage, but they need decentralized database even more, because they need to store lots of relational records such as user profile, user conversation, game parameters, gaming progress.

It’s a very good question Rick. NFT, GameFi are all good and hot concept, but are difficult to execute with efficiency. That’s where Stratos came in with enterprise-level development experince.

So I have clear vision what Stratos will be and what Stratos will solve in next 5 years
Yes, the conversation already started, there are several big business we are talking with.
If some of them using Stratos decentralized CDN service, we can reduce their CDN cost at least 90%, which is not kidding!

Stratos has unique Incentive Mechanism “Proof of Traffic”
At present, most of the blockchain projects on the market use PoW and PoS consensus mechanisms, but they all have, to some extent, limitations and drawbacks. In the real world, the volume of traffic and the number of users are most commonly used to measure the value of internet companies. Traffic will bring more attention which leads to huge commercial value and benefits. Therefore, using traffic to verify the value provided by each node is very much required.
From another perspective, if a node needs to handle higher concurrent traffic, the overall performance of the node needs to be higher. The overall performance of a node is determined by computing power, storage, and network bandwidth. Therefore, motivating the miners using the consensus mechanism of PoT will be much healthier and more effective than PoS or PoW. Miners will not just focus on storage or workload but need to focus on overall performance and increase the network bandwidth of each machine so that the Stratos network can ensure the health and efficiency of the network during high-speed expansion.
The development of Web 3.0 is not only about the richness of the applications on Web 3.0, but also the stability and efficiency of the underlying network. Therefore, Stratos has designed the unique PoT consensus to better encourage all participating miners to maintain the effectiveness of the network and further promote durable and vigorous development and operations.

You need a computer, we don’t ask super server, just a computer in a good shape with high speed bandwidth (around 100M), then you can start to join Stratos testnet. We will ask for the deposit certain STOS if you want to continue mining in mainnet.

How much in Stratos is required to validate?

Speed up the network is not only need super computer and powerful data centre like Google, AWS.
Stratos go differently, we would like everyone to join the network, we will use edge storage and edge computation to beat centralized data centre and cloud. Stratos decentralized Cloud service are built by people. This is the MOST IMPORTANT part for all of us
The reason we launch the incentive testnet is to gather the information, when we have more and more info of network, we will have ideal number

So how does reflection work on the quest for what to do, would we be looking towards multiple node operations as an individual, or a stronger more powerful node with the same amount of holding.
The upstream down stream of the network can’t be a constant 100M is it? or is that the only recommended throughout put?

Like a tree, tree need root, big and strong chunk, but also need lots of leaves.
Stratos will cooperate with professional miner to build the “highway”, but also need millions computers to be leaf to serve your neighbours

100M is recommended, if the bandwidth is lower, maybe the miner only could serve less traffic which will lower his reward as well.
Stratos need 3 types nodes, meta node, blockchain node and resource node.
The meta node is the most important node, we need powerful server to run the meta node. But for blockchain node and resource node, bandwidth is as important as hardware specification.

Can you elaborate more on the meta node? what is it?

Meta node is important, you can understand it’s the DNS service in the current internet, the DNS tell you where is website you want reach.
Meta nodes contains all the routing information, they know everything in Stratos and they can find and assign the tasks to the suitable resource node to execute.
For better understanding, you can think the Meta node of Stratos is super node in EOS which need to be whitelisted
